David Mesa

Tadó,

2025

Tadó distills a fleeting moment in Chocó, Colombia into an image that feels both intimate and expansive. Heider moves across the river just as warm rain begins at sunset, a convergence that David Mesa recalls as “a moment that felt almost unreal to witness.” The photograph holds that sensation of revelation - the sense of a place opening itself through light, rain, and quiet motion. The composition stays restrained, letting atmosphere do the work. Subtle gradients across the water and sky slow the scene into a contemplative pause, inviting the viewer into the intimacy Mesa experienced. This edition carries the emotional clarity of that encounter: the quiet strength of Chocó, its connection to land and river, and the beauty that appears when attention becomes a form of presence.

David Mesa (b. 1995, Pereira, Colombia) is a New York/ Berlin–based photographer whose practice moves between photo-documentary and fashion. His interest in image-making began at 14, when he inherited his father’s camera and became absorbed in the complexity of composition, light, and posture. Over time, he developed a distinct visual language that brings vulnerability and sensuality into dialogue with both staged and everyday contexts.

Mesa’s work explores intimacy, desire, and identity, often through the male body and queer narratives. His photographs trace the intersections of migration, memory, and belonging — reflecting on how lived experience shapes both personal and collective histories. Through his lens, the ordinary becomes charged with tenderness and complexity; each image a gesture toward connection.
